Shaw Method — transform your life in and out of the water
The fundamental principle behind the Shaw Method is that proficient swimming has more to do with you letting go than it does about putting in effort and trying harder.
It not only improves your efficiency in the water but it transforms your way of approach to it, encouraging a more mindful or meditative way of being.
It incorporates a combination of dry land and water practices, which develop your body awareness and a better understanding of the breathing process. You may be apprehensive about breathing whilst in the water which causes your swimming strokes to be badly co-ordinated. This, in turn, puts your neck and back under extreme pressure when you swim. To overcome this natural fear, you first learn to trust the water before moving on to the strokes. Our Shaw Method instructors always accompany you into the water offering physical guidance and support which helps you build greater water confidence.
From here you’ll learn, or re-learn, traditional strokes such as breaststroke, front crawl, backstroke and, for advanced swimmers, butterfly, first on land and then in the water. By teaching you to break down the stroke into a series of interconnected phases, you are able to unlearn bad habits and improve your efficiency of movement. From there it’s all just a question of you diving in and enjoying.
